Three in a family killed in road accident

Firemen extricate the bodies of the three victims from their wrecked car.

SIBU: Three in a family were killed after the car they were travelling in collided head-on with a four-wheel drive(4WD) vehicle at Salim Road here yesterday afternoon.

The driver Sii Toh Chin, 41, his wife Leong Soew Chiang, 35, and their five-year-old daughter Helen were killed on the spot.

The tragedy at 1.30pm occurred when Toh Chin was said to have lost control of the car which entered the opposite lane and collided with the 4WD vehicle.

The family was heading towards the town from their house in Stabau.

The 44-year-old driver of the 4WD originally came from a longhouse also in Stabau, but has moved to live in the town. He was heading to his longhouse when the accident occurred.

Police and firemen rushed to the scene after they were informed. The three persons were pinned to their seats.

Helen was sitting next to her father while her mother was sitting on the back seat. Firemen had to extricate their bodies which the police later sent to the hospital mortuary.
