PETALING JAYA: A video depicting two police personnel extorting money from a teenager, believed to be a student, is making the rounds on social media.

The three-minute video shows a policeman, believed to be a lance corporal, inspecting the teen’s wallet, while his colleague is seen squatting and observing the duo.

The lance corporal then returns the wallet and instructs the student – believed to be from a secondary school, based on the uniform worn – to hand over an unspecified amount of cash.

As the student is about to hand over the money, the policemen in question immediately pulls the student’s hand in an apparent attempt to hide the transaction.

After handing over the cash, the policeman then allows the teenager to leave.

It is believed the policemen had stopped the teenager for playing truant.

Unfortunately, the video has no sound and does not include details such as when and where the incident took place.

The video – uploaded on Malaysia Viral Story – was accompanied by a caption mocking the men in blue, suggesting that policemen earned so little nowadays that they had to resort to extorting money from school kids.

In a statement , Bukit Aman federal police corporate communications head ACP Asmawati Ahmad confirmed that the duo were indeed policemen and said the incident has smeared the image and credibility of the force.

She then urged the victim and other witnesses to come forward to facilitate investigations.

「We will not put up a 『blue wall of silence』 and will not tolerate any wrongdoing by our personnel.」
