Woman sustains serious injuries in head-on collision

MIRI: The female driver of a hatchback was seriously injured in a horrifying head-on collision with a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) on Sunday night.

The accident occurred at about 6.27pm near Trusan beach, Bekenu, along the Miri coastal road.

Lopeng fire station despatched six firemen to the scene upon receiving a distress call from members of the public to help extricate the 26-year-old woman who was pinned to the driver’s seat.

It took the rescuers about half an hour to take her out of the wreckage.

She sustained bodily injuries.

It was learnt that the MPV was heading towards Miri from Trusan beach, while the hatchback was on its way to Batu Niah from Miri.

The MPV driver, a male expatriate, was also injured in the incident.

Due to the impact of the collision, the hatchback landed in a ditch.

Both drivers have been taken to hospital.

Police are still investigating the actual cause of the accident.
