While there is no magic pill or short-cut to weight loss, there are foods that do increase metabolism and speed up our ability to burn calories naturally. Getting plenty of exercise and rest will be the mainstay in obtaining a healthy physique, but eating those foods scientifically proven to speed up metabolism may provide that extra edge to lose even more weight. If you have not done so already, start adding some or all of the metabolism boosting foods and heat up the process to burn fat faster.

The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition states 「Green tea has thermogenic properties and promotes fat oxidation beyond that explained by its caffeine content per se. The green tea extract may play a role in the control of body composition via sympathetic activation of thermogenesis, fat oxidation, or both.」 Caffeine is naturally occurring in Green tea extract and so are powerful antioxidants that provide bountiful health benefits that assist withweight loss along with removing harmful free radicals from the body.

Water has been underestimated in its power to burn fat but studies have shown that drinking water and especially cold water ensures hydration which supports an optimal metabolic rate. In fact The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism recent study stated 「drinking 500 ml of water increased metabolic rate by 30%.」 This significant finding should open eyes to the power of water and the overall health benefits that include weight loss.

Fish like salmon are a rich source of Omega-3 fatty acids and linked to increased metabolism. Fish oil elevates fat burning enzymes which boosts metabolism significantly. Eating foods rich in fatty acids promotes the reduction of the hormone leptin in the body shown to lower metabolism. Studies have revealed a positive effect and reduction of leptin with the consumption of Omega-3 fats and an increase in metabolism.

It is recommended that fatty fish be included in the diet at least 2 to 3 times per week for optimal benefit.
